Finally, we have got our act together and released a test game on the Chrome web store. It is the first in the series of “Damn those …” games called Damn those asteroids.
Take the challenge and play it directly on your browser today 😉
Chrome web store link: Damn those … Asteroids
How to play?
Couldn’t be simpler. Just click and hold your mouse on the spaceman and weave him around the page avoiding all the asteroids. Pick up those jet packs if they scroll down the screen for more life. Stay alive for as long as possible!
About the making of the game
This was our first attempt at making a game. While it isn’t the type of game we wanted to make, it was the one we needed to make to start ticking off the boxes in our game development careers.
We used Construct 2 as the gaming engine to get this one up as quickly as possible so we could submit it to various platforms. We learn a lot on the way. Not just about game development, but also what’s required to get your game out there.
Some things we learnt on the journey were:
- Just how many screen size variations are available when breaking into the android market via the Google Play store.
- Just how much information is required for submission, e.g. multiple screenshots, videos, age restrictions and much more.
- Paid app, in-app purchases, ad revenue or free? We left this till last on this project and eventually went with Adsense to see if we could generate any revenue through Android users. We took this out for the Chrome store though.
