One game that caught our attention this week on Steam, was a little game called Ragdoll Runners.
It’s a kind of an indie sports simulation game with the most frustrating controls. Very similar to QWOP, but much smoother, this game takes you through 4 athletic sports – sprint, long jump, triple jump and hurdles.
There is also different distances you can compete the events. I found that the longer the event, the more chance I had to stuff it up as the opponent rarely misses a beat. If you grab it through Steam there are a heap of badges you can unlock adding more life to the game. We unlocked a Moonwalker badge for my ability to make the guy run backwards … Not even sure how I did it, but it made me feel less upset that I got totally thrashed in the race 🙁
The physics and ragdoll effects are awesome. With a bit of keyboard mashing, you would think we were at the Future music festival rather than competing in track and field events! Russ even put together a small clip of Ragdoll Runners to dance music … doof, doof, doof, doof, doof …
Some of the cooler features this game has, is that you can race against up to 3 friends on the same PC, race against others best online times or even race to beat yourself! You can race against the shadow of your best race.
Like I said, the controls are virtually impossible to master, which is what makes the game so much fun. It is extremely addictive and good for all ages. One Steam comment sums up the game perfectly, you can race 10 times and fail 9 making that successful run so much more satisfying when you hit the finish line.
